Earth Stories and Living Smaller

Blue Dot Films just got back from a production  overseas! We spent two weeks filming in Belize and Guatemala for our first installment in our new series: Earth Stories. A unique look at illegal immigration from a close friend that lived in the United States illegally for over four years, it offers a look at the human and emotional cost of the journey that led him to a better life and future for his family.

While we were there we took the opportunity to film a few segments for another production of ours: Living Smaller, a documentary on the future of housing. We lived on a sail boat with Captain Jim Gregory of the Lorena for a week to experience life at sea in a small environment. To give you an idea, Jim's boat is sixty feet long and sixteen feet wide. While his boat is mostly custom and has incredible space saving and maximizing features, not all of the footage on the boat is livable space. What we learned is that to live at sea, you need to be as self sufficient and sustainable as possible; kind of like our idea for the future of home ownership. With natural resources in the world diminishing, and the human race reaching unprecedented numbers in population, our approach to living may need to have a more efficient and sustainable approach. Seattle Time Lapse

Hey Blue Dot fans!

During our recent research trip to Seattle for small scale living, we filmed a ton and learned a lot. Below we've posted a time lapse sequence of the Seattle/Tacoma International Airport at sunset exclusively for our blog followers! Take a look and check back as we'll have more content from the trip coming online in the next week!

Tumbleweed Tiny House

An entrepreneur named Jay Shafer has created a new line of mobile tiny houses called "Tumbleweed Tiny Houses". At 89 square feet they are the smallest that this producer has ever seen, but they are incredibly well thought out and ergonomic. Although a bit more drastic and a departure from what Blue Dot Communities is proposing, it is in the same spirit of innovation that Jay has created his dream home. We've included a video below (not produced by Blue Dot Films) about his experience creating and living in the house. What are your thoughts on this new brand of living?

Pocket Neighborhoods - Seattle

Blue Dot Films just returned from a reconnaissance trip to Seattle, WA to visit a few planned communities known as Pocket Neighborhoods. Over two days we visited more than four communities all with homes measuring less than two thousand square feet and built with communal areas, off site parking and cottage aesthetics all with the design intent of fostering community among its inhabitants.

We'll be doing a short documentary on the experience in the near future, as well as looking into this design and concept further in the next several months. Good things are on the horizon for the building and housing markets. Be sure to check back often for future updates, as well as promotional clips and media we'll be uploading by week's end!

Sustainable Living

Blue Dot Films Inc. is a subsidiary of its parent corporation, Blue Dot Projects Inc. Blue Dot Projects Inc. is a company with an altruistic mindset. In the very near future, necessity will be the driving factor of economies, rather than personal preference. Consumer demand will create smaller, more functional, environmentally conservative products in the housing, automotive, and energy industries.
Gary Chang, a chinese architect in Hong Kong, created a fully modular living space out of his 344 sq foot apartment capable of supporting 24 livable areas (link below after the jump). Its design and innovation like this that will be responsible for changing the way we move forward in the world.
